Description
Continues from clip FTV-0000795 with a view of the Rille. Off camera the two astronauts Dave Scott and Jim Irwin discuss the rocks they are seeing. Irwin: The sand pile was never like this!! (referring to their training) Scott: Yeah, man! I wish we could just sit down and play with the rocks for a while. Look at these things! They're shiny! And sparkly! (Pause) Look at all these babies here; gosh! Man! Irwin: Come on, Dave. There'll be lot of them, let's get back. Scott: Can't resist it. (Pause) The camera is panning around and zooming in and out of the view of Hadley Rille. It widens back again revealing part of the rover's shadow and the communications dish sticking up. It starts to wobble as the astronauts reach the rover and start to climb on it. Scott: (Let's) go find something neat in St. George. They start to talk about Jim's seat belt. Irwin: You let my belt out all the way, huh? Scott: Yeah. [Jim's statement indicates that the belts could be adjusted but that, even after Dave made the maximum possible adjustment, Jim's was still too short.] Irwin: Don't know if I'll ever be able to get it (Pause) Listen, I'll tell you. Want me to attach it for you? Irwin: Here, try it.

Historic Context of Clip
Background to Apollo 15:
Apollo 15 was the ninth manned mission in the Apollo program and the fourth mission to land on the Moon. It was the first of what were termed J missions, long duration stays on the Moon with a greater focus on science than had been possible on previous missions. Dave Scott and Jim Irwin spent three days exploring the Hadley Delta region with the first Lunar Rover, returning 77kg of samples to Earth.
