Close up of Jim Irwin's lower legs as he stoops to collect a sample with a long handled trowel. The shot widens to show Dave Scott on the left holding the sample bags that Jim is dropping them into. The pair talk about their strategy. Dave says "OK, lets get some typical soil a couple of feet away... and o you know what we're going to do when we get through this thing Joe, [talking to Capcom Joe Allen] we're going to roll it over and sample the soil beneath." Jim says "I'll take it from out here by the gnomon." Joe Allen comments "That a boy Dave. That might fill a square for the football size rock. [To "fill the square" means to record the completion of a task. They are supposed to bring back a football-sized rock and Joe is joking that the Station 2 boulder would fill the bill.]. Camera pans around towards the dramatic view of the Hadley Rille from up here and starts a zoom in on it.

Background to Apollo 15:
Apollo 15 was the ninth manned mission in the Apollo program and the fourth mission to land on the Moon. It was the first of what were termed J missions, long duration stays on the Moon with a greater focus on science than had been possible on previous missions. Dave Scott and Jim Irwin spent three days exploring the Hadley Delta region with the first Lunar Rover, returning 77kg of samples to Earth.
