Description
Speeded up view of the lunar surface seen through the Command Module sextant (a 28x magnification device) on board the Apollo 8 mission. Craters, canyons, mare, bright rims and dark crater bottoms are seen passing as the spacecraft orbits from the night side of the Moon to the daylight.

Background to Apollo 8:
Apollo 8 was the second successful manned mission of the Apollo space program, in which Commander Frank Borman, Command Module Pilot James Lovell and Lunar Module Pilot William Anders became the first humans to orbit the Moon. It was also the first manned launch of the Saturn V rocket.
